How to maintain the drone battery

Both the drone battery and the mobile phone battery are lithium batteries, but there is a difference between the two. Compared to cell phone batteries, drone batteries have a distinctive feature – discharge. The drone battery needs to be discharged to meet the requirements of the drone in different environments, such as aerial photography. In the case of strong winds, the battery needs to be able to make a large current discharge to compensate accordingly to ensure the position of the drone. Due to different usage requirements, the life of the drone battery is relatively short.

So in order to better maintain the maintenance of the drone battery, you can do the following

1.Not low temperature

This principle, many flying friends will ignore. In the north or high altitude areas, there will often be low temperature weather. When the battery is placed outside for a long time, its discharge performance will be greatly reduced. If it is to fly at the time of normal temperature, it will definitely cause problems. At this point, the alarm voltage should be raised (for example, the single-chip alarm voltage is adjusted to 3.8V), because the voltage drop will be very fast in the low temperature environment, and the alarm will immediately fall. In addition, the battery should be insulated. Before the take-off, the battery should be stored in a warm environment, such as inside a house, inside a car, or in an incubator. Quickly install the battery when taking off and perform the mission. Try to shorten the time to half of the normal temperature when flying at low temperatures to ensure safe flight.

2. No short circuit

This often happens during battery wire maintenance and transportation. A short circuit can directly cause the battery to ignite or explode. When it is found that the battery has been disconnected after a period of use, it is necessary to re-solder the wire. Pay special attention to the soldering iron not to touch the positive and negative terminals of the battery at the same time. In addition, in the process of transporting the battery, the best method is that each battery is separately covered with a ziplock bag and placed in an explosion-proof box to prevent the positive and negative electrodes of a certain battery from simultaneously encountering other conductive materials due to bumps and collisions during transportation. Substance short circuit.

3. But not enough

a. Use a dedicated charger. This charger can be a dedicated charger for lithium ion or lithium polymerization, which is very close. Some mobile phone chargers can be used to charge lithium polymer batteries. This will not damage the battery.

b. Accurately set the number of battery cells in the battery pack. In the first few minutes of charging, you must carefully observe the display of the charger, which will display the number of batteries in the battery pack. If you are not sure, you should not charge or use a charger that you are familiar with.

c. Fill a new lithium battery pack for the first time, check the voltage of each battery cell in the battery pack, and do the same work every 10 times for charging and discharging. This is absolutely necessary, a battery pack with an unbalanced voltage will burst when the number of batteries is properly charged. If the cell voltages in the battery pack differ by more than 0.1 volts, you should charge each battery to 4.2 volts to make them equal. If the voltage difference of the battery cells exceeds 0.1 volt after each discharge, it means that your battery has failed and should be replaced.

d. Unattended, do not charge

e. Place the charged battery and charger in a safe location.

f. Generally, there is no special explanation from the manufacturer, and the charging current should not exceed 1C. Current batteries that support high current discharges also support current charging over 1C. But it will greatly shorten the battery life, it is more cost-effective to buy 3 batteries alternately than to buy a battery and have to charge fast.

4. But put

The discharge curve of the battery shows that the voltage drops faster when the discharge starts, but the discharge drops to 3.9~3.7V, and the voltage drops not fast. However, once it drops to 3.7V, the voltage drop speed will increase. If the control is not good, it will lead to over-discharge. If it is light, it will damage the battery, but the voltage will be too low to cause the bomber. Some model friends have a battery because they have fewer batteries, so the battery is short-lived. The strategy is to fly as little as possible for one minute, and the life span will fly one more cycle. It is better to buy two more batteries, and don’t fly the battery beyond the capacity limit every time. To make full use of the battery alarm, an alarm should land as soon as possible.

5. Not full of electricity to save

A fully charged battery cannot be fully charged for more than 3 days. If it is not discharged for more than one week, some batteries will be directly bulged. Some batteries may not be drummed for a while, but after several times of full power storage, the battery may be directly scrapped. Therefore, the correct way is to recharge after receiving the mission. If the battery does not have a mission within 3 days after use, please charge the monolithic voltage to 3.80~3.90V. After charging, there is no flight for various reasons. It is also necessary to discharge the battery to 3.80~3.90V within 3 days after filling. If you do not use the battery within three months, continue to save the battery after charging and discharging it once, which will extend battery life. The battery should be stored in a cool environment. When storing the battery for a long time, it is best to put it in a sealed bag or a sealed blasting box. The recommended ambient temperature is 10~25°C, and it is dry and non-corrosive.

When you buy a drone battery, don’t blindly choose it. Consider the factors such as brand, market heat, evaluation performance, etc., and consider all aspects of factors to consider the battery that suits your drone.
